静岡県生まれ。東京音楽大学作曲専攻 映画・放送音楽コ－ス（現ミュージック・メディアコース）卒業。
1996年映像作家の大林宣彦監督作品「三毛猫のホームズの推理」にアレンジャーとして参加したことをきっかけに、その後の同監督作品の多くに携わることになる。同じく、1996年に光栄（現・コーエーテクモゲームス）の代表作である歴史シミュレーションゲーム「信長の野望 将星録」の音楽を担当。以後、合わせて７シリーズを手掛けている。2003年、大学時代の師匠で、作編曲家・ピアニストの羽田健太郎氏と共に参加したスーパー戦隊シリーズ「爆竜戦隊アバレンジャー」を皮切りに、その後の特撮作品に数多く携わる。主な作品に、「魔法戦隊マジレンジャー」（2005）、「海賊戦隊ゴーカイジャー」（2011)、「仮面ライダー鎧武」（2013）、「暴太郎戦隊ドンブラザーズ」（2022）など。2005年には、TVドラマ「花より男子」（TBS系）が話題になり、その後多くのTVドラマやアニメの音楽を手掛ける。主な作品にTVドラマ「クロサギ」（2006）、TVドラマ「パパとムスメの７日間」（2007）、NHK連続テレビ小説「瞳」（2008）、アニメ「デジモンクロスウォーズ」（2010）、アニメ「ちはやふる」（2011）など。最新作は、アニメ「ドラゴンボールDAIMA」（2024）。また、アレンジャーとして「題名のない音楽会」（EX系）などの放送用編曲や、オーケストラコンサートのアレンジや指揮を多数手掛けるなど、多岐にわたって活躍している。
 
2022年より出身地である磐田市の「静岡いわたPR大使」に就任。市町村合併に伴う、新しい磐田市歌「ふるさと いわた」も作曲している。現在、洗足学園音楽大学教授、東京音楽大学特任教授。日本作編曲家協会（JCAA）理事。

Born in Shizuoka Prefecture. Graduated from Tokyo College of Music, Department of Composition, Film and Broadcasting Music Course (now the Music and Media Course).
In 1996, he participated as an arranger in the film Holmes of the Three-Colored Cat directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi, which led to his involvement in many of Obayashi’s later works. That same year, he composed the music for Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shōseiroku, a historical simulation game and one of the flagship titles of Koei (now Koei Tecmo Games), and has since worked on seven titles in the series.
 
In 2003, together with his university mentor, composer-arranger and pianist Kentarō Haneda, he took part in the Super Sentai series Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger, marking the beginning of his extensive work in the tokusatsu genre. His major credits include Mahō Sentai Magiranger (2005), Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (2011), Kamen Rider Gaim (2013), and Avataro Sentai Donbrothers (2022).
 
In 2005, the TV drama Boys Over Flowers (TBS) became a nationwide sensation, and he subsequently composed music for numerous TV dramas and anime. His representative works include Kurosagi (2006), Papa to Musume no Nanokakan (2007), NHK’s morning drama Hitomi (2008), Digimon Xros Wars (2010), and Chihayafuru (2011). His most recent work is the anime Dragon Ball DAIMA (2024).
 
As an arranger, he has also created orchestral arrangements for television programs such as Untitled Concert (TV Asahi) and conducted and arranged for numerous orchestral performances, showcasing his broad range of musical activities.
 
Since 2022, he has served as the “Shizuoka Iwata PR Ambassador” for his hometown, Iwata City, and composed the new city song Furusato Iwata following the municipal merger.
He is currently a Professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and a Specially Appointed Professor at Tokyo College of Music, as well as a Director of the Japan Composers and Arrangers Association (JCAA).
